NBS is an inclusive, safe space for young artists to grow their musical abilities and expand their knowledge of studio recording. We take a hands-on, practical approach to teaching youth about music production, recording, mixing, performance and writing songs.

A unique feature of NBS is the spirit of collaboration. Young artists of different
ages, backgrounds and skillsets come together to develop projects revolving
around music (songs, albums, videos, performances). Relationships and
networking naturally evolve into music groups, collaborations and teams of like-
minded young artists. At NBS it isn’t only about what you can do for yourself as it
is about what you can do to empower others. We encourage the power of
giving, and offer direct youth mentorship: where youth actively share the many
skills they bring and acquire here.

We encourage young people to think outside the box and delve deep inside
themselves to find their own authenticity. We are a non-judgemental space, that
prides itself on its diversity, forward-thinking and creativity. We strongly
encourage originality in all of our youth.
NBS is driven by purpose. Our purpose is to help develop confidence, creative
thinking and transferable skills in life, through music and art.
We hope to open realms of possibility for young people, who often can feel stuck
in challenging life circumstances and systemic oppression. NBS is a space for
expression and growth, as an individual and as a community.

NBS is located in the heart of the Cote-des-Neiges borough of Montreal, one of
the most diverse neighborhoods in Canada. NBS Studio was developed in 2007,
and remains one of the longest standing programs offered by the Maison des
Jeunes Cotes-des-Neiges (Chalet Kent).
